Composition, arrangement, recording and vocal production for independent artists.
We are an independent Hindi music label. Everything we offer here is something we already do every week for our own releases, which go out to around thirty streaming platforms, Spotify, Apple Music, JioSaavn, Amazon Music, Deezer and Tidal among them, as well as YouTube, under our own registrant code.
That matters more than it sounds. A lot of production services end at a bounced file. We take a song from an idea to a finished, documented recording, because that is what a label has to do anyway.
What this covers
Composition and arrangement
Writing the music, building the arrangement around the song rather than around a template, programming and session playing.
Recording and vocal production
Tracking vocals and instruments, comping, tuning and vocal direction. The performance is usually what decides whether a record works, so this is where the time goes.
Documentation, if you want it
We file our own copyright applications, hold our own ISRC registrant code and are an IPRS publisher member. If you want the paperwork handled properly rather than left for later, ask.
What it does not cover
- Mixing and mastering. We do not offer them, and we would rather say so than take the work and send it elsewhere without telling you.
Who owns the song
Decided per project. Tell us which you want and it goes in writing before any work starts.
You own it
We assign the master and the underlying composition to you in writing, with duration and territory stated on the face of the deed. This is the usual arrangement when you are releasing the song yourself.
We own it, you license it
Kashikesh Productions keeps ownership and grants you a licence on agreed terms. Because the master is ours, we can also issue the ISRC on our own IMI registrant code and register the work at IPRS as part of the same job. Worth considering when you want the record made without taking on the paperwork of owning it.
On ISRCs: we can only issue one on our own registrant code for a recording we own, because that is what IMI’s terms allow. If you own the master, the ISRC comes from your distributor or from your own IMI registrant code, which is free to apply for. We are happy to walk you through getting one.
Either way, a writer’s statutory right to royalties cannot be signed away. The fourth proviso to section 18 of the Copyright Act, 1957 makes it non‑assignable and non‑waivable, shared equally with the assignee, and voids any agreement to the contrary. We route it through IPRS, which is the mechanism the section itself contemplates. Anyone offering to buy it off you is offering something the Act does not allow.
Questions
- Do you offer mixing and mastering?
- No. We cover composition, arrangement, recording and vocal production. Mixing and mastering are separate crafts and we would rather point you at someone who does them properly than take the work and quietly subcontract it.
- Who owns the song when it is finished?
- Whichever way you prefer. We can assign the master and the composition to you in writing, or keep ownership and licence it to you. Either way a writer’s statutory royalty share cannot be signed away, because the fourth proviso to section 18 of the Copyright Act makes it non-waivable, so we route it through IPRS.
- Do you work remotely?
- Yes. Most of our own catalogue is made across cities. Tell us where you are and what you already have recorded, and we will tell you honestly whether remote will serve the song.
- What does it cost?
- It depends on the song and how much of it exists already. We do not publish rates because a full production and a vocal session are not comparable jobs. Describe what you have and we will come back with a number.
